What causes water bubbles in the eye?

Answered by: Dr Rishi Mohan

Q. I am a 48 years old diabetic male weighing 75 kg. I have water bubbles near retina and I feel pain in the eye while blinking. I am using Hypersol-6 as suggested. What causes water bubbles in the eye?

A.  You appear to be developing early corneal decompensation, in which due to the poor functioning of the corneal endothelium, the cornea starts to accumulate water. Hence, the foreign body sensation (pain) in the eye. Hypersol drops and ointment help in the early stages. You should also consult a corneal specialist for further management.
