Can I conceive while being on Thyronorm?

Q: I am a 38 years old woman who is planning to conceive a second baby. I had high blood pressure (BP) problem but now it is under control. I have conceived earlier but got aborted. So I underwent TORCH test, which showed that my cytomegalovirus titre is slightly high. The doctor has given me Torchnil for three months. I also underwent DNC test, which diagnosed thyroid. Now, I am taking Thyronorm (25 mg). Can I conceive?

A:Since you are 38 years old pregnancy will pose problems and you will have to anticipate complications. You are already hypertensive and hypothyroid on medication. Other problems reported with increasing age (after 35 years) are increased incidence of abortions, preterm labour, Down's syndrome, diabetes mellitus etc. So pregnancy is usually complicated and you will be considered a 'High- Risk pregnancy' and will require care under an expert obstetrician.
