How can recurrent yeast infection on penis be treated?
Answered by : Dr Kamlendar Singh
Senior Consultant, Dermatology and Venereology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi
Q. I am a 29 years old man suffering from yeast infection on my penis for the past eight months. I have ringworm on my hips and testicles too, which irritates but it comes and goes on its own. The doctor suggested the use of Fluconazole and Candid ointment; another doctor suggested Nizoral for a week and an ointment. After using them it stops, but the problem is recurrent. Please advise.
A.  If your condition persists or recurs frequently, then one has to consider the following:
  1. You maybe stopping the treatment before infection has been eradicated.
  2. The infective organism is resistant to the drug used.
  3. There is a reservoir of infection from which you are getting re-infected.
  4. There are comorbid predisposing factors.
