Why is my brother not able to walk properly?

Q: My 34 years old brother had a normal life but for the last few years he is not be able to walk on his own and also not able to grip anything properly. He has done his x-ray and MRI, which showed some blockage of the veins behind the shoulders. We have tried everything but there is no sign of any improvement. Is there any treatment available for this? Please advise.

A:A young man who is unable to hold objects with his hands, the following is required:

  • MRI cervical spine to rule out cord compression.
  • Nerve conduction studies + EMG to rule out a disease of the Nerve and or Muscle.
If there is significant cord compression then decompression should be carried out.

Please meet a neurologist and he will be able to guide you further.
