Is it safe to jog at the age of 45 years?

Q: I am a 45 years old man. I stick to my exercise regime very religiously. I brisk walk and jog for an hour in the morning. Is jogging desirable at my age? To add, I don’t have any history of blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.

A:Jogging, per se is not age-dependant but rather a preference of choice for many, if they already have been jogging for a while. If you plan to take it on as a new activity, one in which you have not partaken of earlier, then ease into it gently and see the effects it has on you. It is contraindicated if you have weak joints, especially in the knees and ankles.
