What is the use of Silybin?

Q: What is the use of Silybin and what are its side effects?

A:Silybin is extracted from herbal source and belongs to the so-called alternate medicine. Many claims have been made by its producers such as its use in the treatment of varicose veins, menstrual problems, depression, low breast milk production and as liver protector and solution to gall bladder problems. More recently additional claims have been made about its role in controlling blood sugar. None of these claims have been assessed or verified by competent drug regulators. Hence I am unable to comment on its safety and efficacy.
