Q. I am a 54 years old depression patient, taking one Libotryp tablet daily for quite some time. What could be its side effects?

A.  Libotryp contains two medicines: amitriptyline (anti-depressant) and chlordiazepoxide (anti-anxiety). The side of Amitriptyline: dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision, changes in accommodation, palpitations, tachycardia, tinnitus, drowsiness, nervousness, insomnia, tremors, orthostatic hypertension, dizziness, sweating, weakness, fatigue, ataxia, gastric irritation, weight loss or gain, seizures, allergic skin reactions, jaundice, blood disorders, cardiac disturbances, endocrine effects (libido, impotence, gynaecomastia, galactorrhoea), changes in blood sugar levels, withdrawal symptoms. Cardiomyopathy. Side effects of Chlordiazepoxide: CNS disturbances including impaired alertness, dependence, haematological disturbances. Ataxia, confusion, paradoxical excitement, memory impairment, jaundice, rash, blood dyscrasias, oedema, extrapyramidal effects.
