Q. My wife is 39 years old and had a severe backache. MRI scan (lumber spine) is done with no significant observation. The doctor told us that it is a start of mild spondylosis. The doctor showed us some curvatures protruding at L3, L4 level and said that there is mild prolapse. He prescribed Lanol ER as painkiller and Dulane 20 mg. He told us that it is a vitamin tablet. My took one tablet and felt very drowsy and had vomiting sensation the next day. We stopped this medication. Please advise what is Dulane required for. Is it the right medicine?

A.  Neither Lanol ER nor Dulane are vitamins. Lanol ER contains paracetamol, the same medicine as Crocin. Dulane is the brand name of a medicine called duloxetine, which is primarily meant for major depressive disorders. The side effects of Dulane that may be seen in some patients include worsening of depression, GI upset, dry mouth, appetite loss, drowsiness, dizziness, tremor, blurred vision, hot flushes, increased sweating, fatigue, liver injury, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, generalised anxiety disorder, increased risk of suicide.
