Q. I was using IUD for the last three years, which expired a week back, but it is still inserted. Is it safe to have sex (without getting pregnant) for a couple of months till I get a new one? Does an expired IUD work?

A.  It depends upon what kind of IUD you have in your body. I would suggest using a condom and a spermicidal foam until your IUD is removed or a new one is inserted.
