Difficulty in pronouncing words

Q: My daughter is now 10yrs completed, when she was born doctor had informed us about her tongue tie stating that it might cause little difficult for her to pronounce few words it was due when she was 2yrs old but due to personal reasons it was not done.now at the moment there is now problem in her speech she is normal, what do you suggest to go in for the operation 1)will it help.2)if we dont go for it will it cause any problem in her speech later.3)if we go by any chance will her speech change.

A:If your daughters speech is normal, there is no need for a surgery. However, make sure that she can be understood even by strangers. The familymay have got used to her way of speaking and hence not notice any minorarticulation problem. However, since you live in Chennai and there areseveral institutions and individual experts available, I would like tosuggest that you consult a Speech Therapist for further advice. ICCW, theTamil Nadu branch, located in Shenoy Nagar has brought out a directory ofVoluntary Organizations in Tamil Nadu. Otherwise Vidya Sagar at Kottupuram or SPASTN at Taramani will be able to guide you to the right person.
