Should I increase the iron dose to improve haemoglobin levels?

Q: I am 27 years old and my haemoglobin count has gone down and my face size has started to shrink and it turned skinny with sunken cheeks. My doctor has advised me to take Carbonyl iron 50 mg (cofol-Z or haemogold). My face has improved a lot but it's taking a lot of time to get the shape I originally had. Now its been almost 9 months I am taking this iron tablet. Do think I should increase the iron dose?

A:Excessive intake of iron is not utilised and metabolised by the system; hence no use increasing the dose. On the other hand it can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, blood in vomit etc.
