Q. I am a 22 years old student. My relative is suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Can Metpure xl (metoprolol) be prescribed to COPD patients?

A.  Metoprolol belongs to a group of medicines called beta blockers. These medicines are contraindicated in patients with bronchospasm such as asthma, COPD etc. These drugs can make the symptoms worse.
