Is my husband’s semen analysis normal?

Q: My 33 years old husband recently underwent a semen analysis. The report showed volume of 1 ml. Total sperm concentration is < 1 mill/ml, viscosity is normal, ph is 8.0, progressive motility is 02%, non-progressive motility is 10%, immotile sperms is 88% and morphology is normal. Is my husband’s semen analysis normal?

A:Your husband's semen analysis report is not normal. Although natural conception is still possible but its chances are very very low. He should consult a urologist who has special interest in male infertility. A detail history, examinations, blood tests including hormonal evaluation and possibly ultrasound etc are needed for further evaluation. There are many reasons which can result into this abnormal semen analysis report. If no correctable abnormality is found, then ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is one of the possibility you may have to consider in future. ICSI is one of the ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) performed in collaboration with gynecologist, urologist, embryologist etc."
