What do my husband’s TMT test findings suggest?

Q: My 56 years old husband has been under medication for mitral valve prolapse (MVP) MR for the past eight years. He undergoes TMT or stress test and ECG regularly. But in the recent TMT test, good effort tolerance and mildly positive inducible ischaemia was reported. What does it mean? He has been taking these medicines - Lodoz 5, Ecosprin (75 m/bg), Rozavel 10 and Nialip 175.

A:Whereas the diagnosis of MVP was often made in the past, in many cases it is a "dustbin" diagnosis with no clear outcome or prognosis attached to it and no definite treatment. It is clear that there are specific echo based criteria to label a person as having Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP), and the outcome is usually dependent on the amount of mitral regurgitation (MR) and its progression. The medications prescribed are for hypertension and abnormal lipids and as such are appropriate provided they are achieving the desired targets of blood pressure and lipid levels appropriate for the patient.
