How is persistent acne treated?

Q: I am a 27 years old married male with a history of acne and rashes on my face, which is due to hormonal issues as explained by the doctor. But for the past two months, acne has been recurring. I have consulted a doctor, who prescribed Dalacin T, Tretinon along with an antibiotic Tidact capsule twice daily. The prescribed medicines have shown improvement. The doctor has also recommended Diane. How can recurring acne be treated permanently?

A:In majority of the patients, pimples subside spontaneously by mid twenties. However, some cases may have significant amount of pimples till the age of 40 years. Till the problem subsides, treatment is given to minimize the amount of permanent scaring. One starts with minimal medication. Medicines and their doses are altered according to the response. Once controlled, these are reduced and the maintenance dose is found, which is then continued till the tendency for acne is over.
