Why do I have pain and swelling in my ankles?

Q: I am a 20 years old man who had viral fever five days back and now I am experiencing pain in my ankles since then. Initially the feet and shoulder were also aching but the pain subsided to ankles only and it is swollen now. The doctor prescribed Dolo-65 and Meftal-250 for 3 days and vitamin-B for a month. But I still have the pain. What should I do? Please advise.

A:Since the diagnosis of viral infection was made clinically, it would be better to get certain blood tests done such as CBC and ESR, LFTs to begin with in case swelling and pain in ankle joint is persisting. There are many viruses that can affect the joints and each one has a different test. In the meantime you can take Meftal-250 for another 4 days (i.e. 7 days in all). Dolo-650 is unlikely to be of much help.
