Why do I feel pain in the shin while jogging?

Q: I am 26 years old male and weight is 62 kg. I feel pain in the shin while jogging or jumping. Please help.

A:Pain below the knee around the shin area on jogging is mostly due to medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints). If one continues to jog or run despite pain it can lead to what is known as a stress fracture. I would advise you to back off from running for about a week or so and then gradually restart and increase the mileage. Also apply ice to the area if it is still sore. In the future you should always do some warm up and stretching exercises of the lower extremity before jogging or running.
