Are Amalgam fillings bad for teeth?

Q: I am a 28 years old male from Iran. Recently, I underwent a root canal treatment for my tooth with Amalgam (containing mercury). Someone has told me that Amalgam is bad for health. Kindly suggest whether I should remove it and go for another filling. If yes, than which material?

A:After root canal treatment you should get crowns placed on the teeth. This prevents them from fracturing. If you want to get the Amalgam fillings changed then composite fillings are a good option.
