Q. I am 25 years old and have a hole on my ear, right at the top of the ear. I always wondered why it is there. The doctors have not told me the reason for it, all they say is that if I am not having any trouble with it, then why worry about it? Do you know what it is? I have only met one another person with this problem and she only had it on one of her ears.

A.  According to your description you seem to have Preauricular sinuses. These are congenital defects and are tracts lined by skin. If not causing any problem they may be left as such. If they get infected and start discharging, then complete excision is the treatment of choice.
