Q. A friend of mine tried committing suicide. She is 28 years old and intended to swallow a drug called Trazine-H. She wanted to eat 100 tables but we managed to stop her. What is this drug? What are the effects? I know she takes it regularly? Will she die if she took around 100 tablets of these?

A.  Trazine H is the brand name which contains two medicines: trifluoperzine and trihexyphenidyl. It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It's adverse effects are muscle spasms, tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movement of muscles), dry mouth, constipation, retinopathy (severe eye problem), hypotension, fatigue, menstrual irregularities, blood disorders, dermatitis, drowsiness, jaundice, convulsions (lowered seizure threshold), rash, insomnia, skin pigmentation, extrapyramidal reactions. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (serious). Overdose will make the above symptoms far worse.
