Dr OP Yadava hails from an army background. Born as a Piscean in the year 1955, he had a rewarding academic career, coursing through medical graduation and a Masters degree in Surgery from Maulana Azad Medical College between the years 1977 and 1981 respectively. Soon thereafter he joined Armed Forces as Surgical Specialist. He cleared his DNB Examination in General Surgery in the year 1983. He is married to a professional Dr Usha Yadava, Director & Professor of Ophthalmology at the Maulana Azad Medical College. His basic training in cardiothoracic surgery started when he was at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 1985. For advanced training he went to Australia and worked under and along with some of the greatest cardiac surgeons of recent times. Besides adult cardiac surgery, he was trained in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery in Melbourne & Japan. He came back to India in 1992 and successfully cleared the National Boards in Cardiothoracic Surgery (DNBE) and was honoured with Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS) in 1994; (FICC) in 2003 & FIACS in 2005. He has an experience of over 8000 open heart surgical procedures, of which around 6000 have been performed after his return to India and include mainly coronary artery bypass surgeries, valve replacements and congenital heart procedures. His special field of interest is coronary artery bypass surgery especially total arterial revascularisation & beating heart surgeries (Minimally Invasive). Currently he is Chief Executive Officer & Chief Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, National Heart Institute, New Delhi and Director –All India Heart Foundation, after having served as founder Chairman – Dept. of Cardiac Surgery, Dharma Vira Heart Centre, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi from 1998 – 2005. Credentials: He has been honoured with several awards like the 'Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award' for Medicine for the year 1992, 'Scroll of Honour' award of the Delhi Medical Association for the year 1993, 'Dr.B.N. Khanna Memorial Oration of IMA' in 1995 at Kanpur, 'Paul Harris Fellow' Award by Rotary International, USA, 2006, 'WCCPC Life Time Achievement Award' bestowed by President of India His Excellency Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, 'Indira Gandhi Excellence Award – 2006' by National Medical Forum, 'L.B. Thapa Oration' of Surgical Society of Nepal 2006. IMA Dr K Sharan Cardiology Excellence Award' awarded by Indian Medical Association for the year 2005-06 at the 81st All India Medical Conference held at Patna, 'IMA – NDB Distinguished Service Award' awarded by Indian Medical Association for the year 2007, 'WCCPC and WPCHC 2007 Distinguished Service Award' bestowed by His Excellency Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, Mount Abu, September 2007. Publications: He has presented/published over 275 scientific papers in national & international conferences and journals. He is currently Editor in Chief of Cardiology Today and Member of the Editorial Board in Indian Heart Journal, Journal of American Medical Association (Indian Edition), Hospital Today, and Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases, Pakistan.
