Dr Bhattacharya graduated in medicine from University of Calcutta. He received postgraduate education and training at University of Bombay, Delhi, Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff, UK & Institute of Traditional Medicine, Beijing, China.

Dr Bhattacharya has specialised in Pain Medicine and Intensive care. He established Pain Clinics at Safdarjung Hospital, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital & BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences, Nepal. He has received Commonwealth and WHO fellowships to study Intensive care and Pain Medicine, including Acupuncture. He is the founder secretary of the Indian Society of Pain Reaserch and Therapy and founder president of the Indian chapter of International Trauma Anaesthesia Critical care Society. He has many publications in reputed journals in the field of Pain and related subjects.

Dr Bhattacharya is currently at the Asian Institute of Medicine and Technology, Malayasia.
