Dr. Venkateshaiah is a leading physician in the field of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Venkateshaiah, born in Bangalore, earned his medical degree in 2000 from Bangalore Medical College, which is consistently ranked one among the top 10 medical schools in India for many years.
Dr. Venkateshaiah then moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his ambition of specializing in Internal Medicine. During his stay there, Dr. Venkateshaiah was actively involved in academic and scholarly activities. After two years of practicing Internal Medicine in the UK, he moved to USA to further enhance medical expertise in his field of interest namely Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Venkateshaiah pursued his academic and research interests in Internal Medicine at the Case Western Reserve University (MetroHealth Campus) which is one among the top 20 medical schools in the country. During his residency training at the Case Western Reserve University, he was involved in critical research in the field of sleep behaviors in patients with obstructive sleep apnea and in defining the physicians’ role in patient smoking cessation. In recognition of his excellent patient care, research work and capabilities, he was awarded with a fellowship opportunity in his chosen field of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the same University.
Dr. Venkateshaiah is one of the only two physicians selected every year to specialize in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (MetroHealth Campus), a very well renowned institution for ground breaking research, physician training and patient care. MetroHealth Medical Center prides itself for being the first center in the world to have done ground breaking research in the field of rheumatic fever, rheumatic heart disease, ARDS and in defining the role of Swan-Ganz catheter in the management of critically ill patients.
Dr Venkateshaiah provides care to patients with pulmonary (chest) diseases and critically ill patients. During his fellowship training, he has worked extensively in the field of delirium in the intensive care units (ICU) and has been successful in the implementation of a protocol to identify patients with delirium in the ICU. He has presented at the various regional, national and international meetings and has published in various journals. He has also worked extensively looking at the effects of copying among physicians in the electronic health records in the ICU and his work is expected to be published soon. The preliminary results of his work were published at the Chest 2010 held in Vancouver, Canada. He has also been a reviewer for the Journal of Hospital Medicine.
Dr Venkateshaiah’s special interests include thromboembolic diseases (diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism), lung cancers, and delirium in the ICU, ARDS, and mechanical ventilation in the ICU. Dr. Venkateshaiah is an active member of numerous prestigious professional organizations like General Medical Council, UK; American Thoracic Society; American College of Chest Physicians; and American College of Physicians.
With his excellent training from world renowned medical centers, experience and exposure to different health care systems in India, United Kingdom, and USA, Dr. Venkateshaiah is an expert and a useful resource on the latest developments in the field of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and also on health care policy matters.
