Dr Sudarshan Kumari has done her MD in Paediatrics, DCH, FIAP and a Certificate course in Nutrition (from Hyderabad). She did her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College and MD from Maulana Azad Medical College in 1967. She worked in the department of Paediatrics at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi form 1967-77. From 1977 -1996, she worked at Lady Hardinge Medical College and Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital. She retired as professor and head of the department.


Presently she is working at the Sunderlal Jain Hospital, Delhi as a Paediatric Consultant. Her main assignments have been - Member Task Force, Minimum Perinatal Care, Reduction of Maternal Mortality; government of India. She is the past secretary of the national neonatology forum; President - Delhi NNF and IAP, and is associated with 5 award winning conferences. In research, she has published more than 150 papers in national and international journals besides papers presented in various conferences. She had been a supervisor for MD thesis in Delhi University.

Her main areas of interest and focus of work are:

Birth asphyxia,

Neonatal problems,

Problems of infant growth & development,

Detection of developmental abnormalities and early intervention, and

Infant growth with breast feeding.
