Area of specialisation: Transfusion Medicine
Joined the AIIMS blood bank in 1980 & introduced the following:
Blood component laboratory. Initiated blood component therapy rather than whole blood at the AIIMS.
Long term cryopreservation of Rh negative and other rare units.
Red cell and platelet serology.
Improved donor collection. Donor profile currently undergoing transition from replacement to voluntary donors.
Training Programmes:
Short term training in Transfusion Medicine for medical officers and blood bank techniques for technical staff from other institutes Proposed & created the Department of Transfusion Medicine with the objective of starting MD in Transfusion Medicine.
Research & Publications:
Related to blood components, transfusion transmitted infections & platelet serology.
Award:
The Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology medal 1999.
