To quote Isaac Asimov - 'No decent human being would allow an animal to suffer without putting it out of its misery. It is only to human beings that human beings are so cruel as to allow them to live on in pain, in hopelessness, in living death, without moving a muscle to help them'. There are those who want to live out every second of life - no matter how grim - but for those who do not it should be their right to decide. This is what this book is all about and it proves to be a book of courage because the subject is ridden with controversy! However, it must not be used as a tool to escape clinical depression or mental illness without first seeking medical help and counselling. We do not know enough about the human mind so far to advocate physician-assisted suicide for psychological reasons and very often terminally ill patients who profess to crave for death change their minds when it comes to having to face the reality of it. Many questions are explained, many aspects of terminal illness with examples of decisions taken are furnished here and the author has no compunctions in sharing his own personal experiences with the reader.
